Cancerfocus won a small victory on March 3rd 2007 after consulting with a Myelodysplastic Syndrome patient who had recently visited a famous southern cancer center. After being told he was too old for a stem cell transplant and should go on chemo or supportive care, this patient contacted our scientists to discuss his case. After being directed to a new type of therapy, the patient returned to the original doctor and asked "What about xx therapy?" The original physician backpeddled and said that they did have the therapy, and that he could return in two months to discuss it (two months, by the way, that we and the center we sent him too feel he does not have.) UPDATE 11.1.07: While the patient is now at the best transplant center in America, he delayed his decision 6 months as he felt no rush from his Doctor's recommendations. His condition has worsened and he now needs a stronger dose of radiation to prepare him for his transplant. This carries a greater risk of death. When faced with our grim prognosis, and that of the doctors we sent him too, he did not act. We are not here tell you what you want to hear. We will tell you the truth.
This scenario happens on a daily basis for a number of reasons from fear of belmishing a hospitals rank to the physician's vacation. We know how important this information is for you. If you would like a detailed consideration of your case, you can hire one of our experts by the hour to return to you current research on your disease. They will tell you who is doing which research and where, allowing you to find new treatments and ultimately feel comfortable that you have made the right decision. Contact us for more information or use the donate button above, and we will do what we can to help. Keep in mind that every dollar you give is going directly to someone working daily in lab trying to find a cure to the myriad cancers that plague us.
